Statistical Inference

There will be three 3-days gatherings each comprising 18h of lecturing. The first meeting will take place in Växjö, 12-14 October, the second meeting will be held in Stockholm, 5-7 December and the third one is organized in Uppsala, 8-10 February.

Instructors who so far have agreed to participate are Thomas Holgersson, Björn Holmquist, Hans Nyquist, Dietrich von Rosen, Rolf Sundberg and Silvelyn Zwanzig. There will be another three so each meeting will be run by three instructors.

Content

We hope to provide up-to-date material and the course aims to serve as a basic Ph.D. course for students in Statistics. In Växjö the focus will be on the philosophy of Statistics, including a brief historical perspective, and estimation (likelihood based, parametric, non-parametric, robust estimation). In Stockholm testing hypothesis and confidence sets (likelihood based, parametric, non-parametric, etc.) will be the main topics. In Uppsala Bayesian inference and algorithmic approaches will be taught as well as some Decision theory. A number of exercises will be discussed during the meetings. Concerning the course literature there will be many sources. The instructors will provide their own materials or suggest suitable reading.

Prerequisite

A master in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics or equivalent is a reasonable background. However, local master students are welcome to follow the presentations.

Participation

Those who intend to participate please inform, as soon as possible but not later than September 15, Thomas Holgersson (thomas.holgersson@lnu.se) or Dietrich von Rosen (dietrich.von.rosen@slu.se). We kindly ask you to confirm participation with your main supervisor.

General information

Thomas Holgersson (thomas.holgersson@lnu.se) or Dietrich von Rosen (dietrich.von.rosen@slu.se) can suggest B & B or hotels but all travelling arrangements and bookings has to be taken care of by the participant and her/his home institution. We can also provide more specific course information.

Warmly welcome

Thomas & Dietrich
